Brazil wood pellet plant based on eucalyptus biomass has been operating since March, 2014

In Brazil on March 26, 2014 one of the largest biomass producers in Brazil EBR (Energias Renováveis do Brasil) together with the large  U.S. chemical company Dow Chemical launched CHP on wood pellets. The capacity of the plant is 125.7 MW. The cost of the project amounted to $ 117,25 million (265 million reals).

The contract signed by both companies is to provide for the supply of steam and electricity for the next 18 years. According to the contract electricity will be supplied for Aratu petrochemicals complex in state of Bahia, which is one of the largest in Brazil. The owner of the complex is Dow Chemical Company. European straw pellet buyers and importers 2010-2013

The database of straw pellet importers 2010-2013 has been prepared on the basis of monitoring export statistics and the data of Ukrainian Biofuel Portal. The present database contains the information about the companies from Poland, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Greece and Sweden. The presented firms are the real buyers of straw pellets from Ukraine, which made wholesale purchases of pellets in 2010-2013.

 

Ukrainian market of straw pellets: high potential - slow growth

Today the domestic companies selling straw biofuel are forced to develop the domestic market feverishly. Maybe it is to the good as it would be better for Ukraine with its constantly increasing prices for gas to accelerate the shift to alternative energy sources. However, it's not all that simple. According to the producers of straw fuel, Ukrainians wish to buy their production, but just desire appears to be not enough.

The database is prepared on the basis of straw pellet sale proposals received on Ukrainian Biofuel Portal (UBP) from 2009 to 2013 (I-III quarters). Before releasing the database the specialists of UBP interviewed all registered straw pellet producers and suppliers regarding the relevance of their proposals, the availability and cost of the production. The prepared information resource contains the data about the companies from such Ukrainian regions as Kievskaya, Vinnitskaya, Donetskaya, Dnepropetrovskaya, Cherkasskaya, Odesskaya, Poltavskaya, Zaporozhskaya, Sumskaya, Ivano-Frankovskaya, Kharkovskaya, Khmelnitskaya, Kirovogradskaya and the Crimea.

The prices of fuel granules in the EU break records

Today the cost of fuel pellets in Austria is 195 euro per ton (net), it is 14% more compared to 2012. As for Germany, the price of pellets in the country increased by 19% and reached 191 euro per ton.
